ECADI's World Expo Museum: A Timeless Architectural Marvel

Award-winning design integrates World Expo memory with urban life

ECADI's World Expo Museum in Shanghai, China, is a testament to innovative architectural design, blending the past, present, and future in a unique structure that has earned international acclaim.

The museum is the first formal international museum in China and currently the only permanent official museum and document center authorized by the International Exhibition Bureau (BIE). This unique status sets it apart from other museums and makes it a significant landmark in the country. The museum's design, which features the largest copper panels in domestic external curtain wall in public buildings, is a testament to ECADI's innovative approach to architecture and design.

The realization of the museum's design was achieved through the use of advanced technology. The curtain wall of the “Valley” is made of customized "copper and aluminum composite plate,” while the “Jubilant Cloud” employs a rare high-altitude structural system, "suspended steel structure enclosure." The use of full digital technology generation, integrated layout, and integrated design of mechanical and electrical equipment and pipelines, results in a highly efficient and pure space.

The World Expo Museum project was a significant undertaking, involving 12 top design companies, including Zaha Hadid, Architecture Studio, and Arata Isozaki. ECADI emerged as the winner and was responsible for the detailed design and construction coordination of the entire project. The museum is located in the area of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, south of the Bund Riverside Park and north of the urban secondary trunk road of Longhua East Road.

The design of the museum posed several challenges, which were overcome through the use of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) system as the platform for the entire project. This approach resulted in a 20% energy saving compared to similar construction unit areas, earning the building a three-star green building award from the People's Republic of China for "Green Building Evaluation Logo."

In 2018, the World Expo Museum was awarded the Silver A' Architecture, Building, and Structure Design Award, a prestigious accolade that recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. This award is a testament to ECADI's commitment to creating architectural designs that inspire and amaze.
