Devesh Pratyay, an acclaimed designer, found his inspiration in copper's unique properties. In Bengali, copper is called "tama," a term that signifies purity and authenticity. Historically, copper has been used in monetary transactions, symbolizing value and connecting civilizations. This connection is recreated in Tama Restaurant, where copper's energy is channeled into the space, creating an immersive experience for guests.
The restaurant's design is a blend of artistry and innovation. Sculptures and coins, made from fiberglass and painted in antique copper color, adorn the space. The flooring combines Italian marble, titanium travertine, and silver potrero, while the walls are painted with Oikos texture paints from Italy. Mirrors are strategically placed to reflect and enlarge the space, creating a sense of grandeur and opulence.
The Tama Restaurant spans 700 square meters and accommodates 220 covers. Despite its vast size, the space has been cleverly divided into smaller, intimate areas, catering to different tastes and preferences. The restaurant features a raised dining area, private dining rooms, and a balcony, each designed to harmonize with the overall vibe of the place.
Guests are drawn into the restaurant almost instinctively, captivated by the ethereal energy that permeates the space. Dancing figurines on a copper background lure guests into the inner sanctum, where artists bring to life stirring masterpieces with their performances. The restaurant also boasts an exclusive microbrewery and a state-of-the-art world kitchen, the result of years of experimentation and research by some of the finest culinary minds.
The Tama Restaurant project started in May 2017 and was completed in February 2018. The design process involved extensive research, particularly in identifying old coins and sculptures that were then designed and placed in the space. The project faced several challenges, including breaking down the vast space into smaller areas to create privacy and cater to different tastes. However, these challenges were successfully overcome, resulting in a design that is both innovative and captivating.
The Tama Restaurant design has been recognized for its creativity and innovation, winning the Silver A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The Tama Restaurant design, with its unique blend of artistry and technology, certainly fits this description.
