Cim Chair: Combining Brazilian Modernism with Scandinavian Influence

A Versatile and Customizable Chair for Every Space

The Cim chair is a unique fusion of Brazilian modernism and Scandinavian design, resulting in a versatile and customizable piece that combines aesthetics, functionality, and affordability.

Inspired by the success of Scandinavian furniture companies, designer Caio Henrique V. dos Santos Castela sought to adapt their design characteristics to the productive and aesthetic features of mid-century Brazilian modern furniture. The result is the Cim chair, a stunning piece that pays homage to the rich heritage of Brazilian design while incorporating contemporary elements.

What sets the Cim chair apart is its ability to bring together key features from Brazilian modernism with a contemporary vision of production and consumption. The chair is designed to appeal to a diverse range of users without relying on large-scale industry. It features a structure and seat made from three options of Brazilian woods - Curupixa, Freijo, or black stained Caxeta - and a fiberglass laminated backrest.

With its low cost and numerous possibilities for customization, the Cim chair is a testament to the designer's commitment to disseminating good design to a wider audience. The chair is not only visually appealing but also functional, making it suitable for various settings. Whether used in groups in restaurants or auditoriums, or individually in home offices or entry rooms, the Cim chair offers both style and comfort.

The production process of the Cim chair involves the use of advanced technology and traditional craftsmanship. The main structure and seat are crafted from Brazilian woods, while the backrest is made from laminated fiberglass using epoxy resin. The chair is assembled with two steel pieces and twenty-four screws, ensuring durability and stability.

Measuring L- 550mm, P- 480mm, H- 750mm, and SH- 445mm, the Cim chair is designed to fit seamlessly into any space. Its timeless and refined design, combined with its unique blend of materials, makes it a standout piece that adds elegance and sophistication to any interior.

The development of the Cim chair involved extensive research into the characteristics of Brazilian design from the mid-century era. The goal was to adapt the solutions of the current Scandinavian furniture industry to smaller-scale production, pushing the boundaries of shapes with fiberglass lamination.

Despite the challenges of uniting Brazilian design with Scandinavian characteristics and working within the limitations of artisanal small-scale manufacturing processes, the Cim chair successfully combines the best of both worlds. It represents a contemporary approach to design, catering to the demand for small-scale local production and customization.

The Cim chair has already garnered recognition in the design world, winning the Iron A' Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Cim chair stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world through fulfilling and positive design.

With its unique blend of Brazilian modernism and Scandinavian influence, the Cim chair is a testament to the designer's vision and commitment to creating timeless and refined furniture that combines aesthetics, functionality, and affordability.
