Sara Chyan's "Emotional Jewellery" collection is a captivating exploration of the relationship between heat and emotion. Inspired by her fascination with temperature as a means of assessing one's emotional state, Chyan chose to use bismuth, a metallic material with symbolic attributes that can effectively reflect the wearer's emotions.

What sets this collection apart is the innovative use of bismuth, a material rarely seen in everyday life. With its low melting point of 271.5 degrees Celsius, Chyan is able to infuse her pieces with a heat factor. The oxidation of bismuth results in stunning crystallized forms and colors that can indicate the temperature.

The realization of these designs requires careful control of both the melting and room temperatures. Chyan skillfully manipulates the metal, allowing it to crystallize and form different shapes based on the heat applied. The intricate details and gradations of colors achieved through this process are truly impressive.

The "Emotional Jewellery" collection includes various pieces, such as installations, brooches, bangles, and rings. Each item showcases the unique properties of bismuth and its interaction with temperature. For example, the bangles measure 65 x 65 x 6 mm and 65 x 65 x 10 mm, while the open ring is 13 x 10 x 9 mm, featuring adjustable sizing.

Chyan's project began in October 2016 in London and was completed in June 2017. The collection has been exhibited in various locations, including London, Romania, Italy, Munich, and Lithuania.

The development of the "Emotional Jewellery" collection presented its fair share of challenges. Chyan conducted extensive testing and thousands of experiments to understand the reactions of different metals and their combinations. The use of bismuth as a low-melting-point material in jewellery design was a particularly innovative approach.

Chyan's "Emotional Jewellery" collection has garnered recognition in the design world, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2018. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
