The inspiration for the Splash Ring came to Sarah Herriot during an advanced CAD modeling course. While creating a mood board, she stumbled upon images of surf waves curling and crashing against rocks. The shank of the wave represents the curl of the water, while the sprays symbolize the waves crashing against the shore.
What sets the Splash Ring apart from other designs is its construction and materials. Sarah Herriot used 3D CAD modeling software, specifically Matrix, to design the ring. It is made up of six cast pieces in sterling silver, which are meticulously soldered together. The seams are then laser sintered and filed back for accuracy.
To enhance the visual appeal of the ring, the ends of the spray and the ring's interior are protected, while the rest of the ring is sandblasted. This sandblasting technique creates a sparkling surface that catches the light beautifully. Additionally, the ring is rhodium plated, giving it the color of platinum and ensuring it won't tarnish over time.
The Splash Ring is not just limited to rings; it also includes matching earrings and a pendant. This cohesive collection allows individuals to express their love for the ocean and its mesmerizing waves in various ways.
The Splash Ring has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2016, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence. The Splash Ring truly embodies these qualities, making it a remarkable piece of wearable art.
With its unique design and meticulous craftsmanship, the Splash Ring by Sarah Herriot is a testament to the beauty and power of nature. It serves as a stunning reminder of the ocean's captivating waves and the endless inspiration they provide.
