The Bleached Office stands out with its open layout and adaptive design, allowing for flexible use according to different phases of office operations. The use of metal mesh partitions provides a semi-opaque quality while maintaining visual extension within the space from certain angles. The flooring and ceiling are made of cedar wood, creating a cohesive visual unity with white-washed flake boards used as pin-up walls. These design elements, combined with the branding details such as window screen design and lighting fixture arrangement, amplify the identity of the client's firm.
The realization of The Bleached Office involved the use of expanded metal mesh, galvanized steel panels with laser-cut patterns, cedar wood flooring, and white mix terrazzo. The 60 square meter space was transformed from an aged residential flat into a visually striking and functional design office.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was selecting the right type of mesh for the desired level of opaqueness and transparency on the partitions and door panels. Digital simulation and sampling were necessary to achieve the desired effect. Additionally, the assembly of the materials on-site posed a challenge due to their unique characteristics. The front screen, featuring a digitally designed pattern, required precise layout and laser cutting to ensure smooth operability. The terrazzo counter top in the common room underwent testing to achieve the perfect white mix before casting on-site.
The Bleached Office serves as a designer's workspace, accommodating up to seven co-workers. In addition to the main working area, it includes a restroom, common room, and storage balcony. The flexible and open plan allows for a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
The design project for The Bleached Office took place from January 2017 to June 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. It was initiated from the designers' interest in the impact of colors and patterns on the perception of spaciousness in interior design. By utilizing white as the primary color, the design aims to visually and emotionally interact with users, creating a positive and energizing work environment.
The Bleached Office has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
