Euphoria Resort: A Contemporary Oasis in Chania

Combining Tradition and Modernity

Since the hotel is built in a village that carries the Cretan tradition, the design team sought references in the local architecture and selected lines and materials that reflect the architectural features of the city of Chania, combined with contemporary elements. The forms are inspired by the old Venetian town and harbor of Chania and an attempt was made to implement them in a modern way. The architectural elements refer to the Venetian dockyards with their characteristic domes and triangular ends of the facades, as well as the Venetian wall with its monumental facade.

Situated in Skoutelonas village, Chania, Greece, Euphoria Resort is a stunning example of contemporary design that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity. Designed by the renowned MM Group Consulting Engineers, the resort draws inspiration from the local architecture of Chania, incorporating elements that pay homage to the city's rich history.

The resort complex consists of eight buildings strategically positioned along the outline of the plot to ensure unobstructed views of the sea or mountains from every room. The design team took great care in creating a visual continuity between the hotel and its surroundings, with a particular focus on the beach-entry outdoor swimming pool. Positioned in a way that extends the sense of the sea into the hotel complex, the pool serves as a centerpiece, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of the surroundings.

Constructed using reinforced concrete, the hotel buildings feature pitched roofs covered with heat-sealing materials. The domes, reminiscent of the Venetian dockyards, are constructed using metal structures covered with insulation panels. The facades of the hotel are coated with plaster or stone, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal. The outdoor spaces feature pergolas constructed with wooden and metal elements, providing sun protection for guests.

Euphoria Resort was designed to accommodate 290 rooms and 690 beds, covering a total area of 65,000 square meters. The resort boasts a range of amenities, including four restaurants, a lounge bar, a pool bar, an indoor heated pool, a spa center and gym, a waterpark, and a shopping area. The rooms and suites are carefully designed with a sophisticated and contemporary style, some even featuring private pools and gardens.

One of the standout features of Euphoria Resort is its commitment to sustainability. The resort utilizes a geothermal air conditioning and hot water system, harnessing the heat of pumped groundwater from drilling. Additionally, two autonomous photovoltaic fields generate electricity, making the hotel an A plus energy class building.

The design and construction of Euphoria Resort presented several challenges, given the scale and complexity of the project. The design team had to make quick and effective decisions within a limited timeframe, ensuring that the design was aesthetically appealing, functional, cost-effective, and energy-efficient. By incorporating renewable energy sources and implementing measures to reduce energy consumption, the team successfully created a high-performance building that meets the highest standards of sustainability.

Euphoria Resort, with its contemporary design and seamless integration of tradition and modernity, stands as a symbol of comfort and luxury in the heart of Chania. Its unique blend of architectural elements, commitment to sustainability, and stunning surroundings make it a truly exceptional destination.
