Revolutionizing Travel: The Adaptable Luggage Set

Guillermo Fok De Jesus' Award-Winning Design for Slow Travelers

Unveiling the innovative luggage set 'errant and cheval' by Guillermo Fok De Jesus, a unique solution for slow travelers that combines traditional luggage design with modern adaptability and functionality.

Guillermo Fok De Jesus, a master of design, has created a unique luggage set that caters to the needs of slow travelers. Inspired by the slow movement, the 'errant and cheval' set is designed to provide easy access and size adaptability based on travel length. This innovative design approach has earned the set the prestigious Golden A' Fashion and Travel Accessories Design Award in 2019.

The luggage set's unique properties lie in its adaptability. Using traditional sewing and patterning methods, the backpack and handbag can adapt to their contents, never exceeding the maximum carry-on dimensions set by the airline industry. The material and form are inspired by the history of leisure travel and the impact of the industrial revolution on mass transportation.

Constructed using a combination of marine vinyl, industrial acrylic felt, and duck canvas, the luggage set is both durable and aesthetically appealing. The handbag, when flat packed, measures 6 x 10 x 3 inches, but can expand up to 6 x 10 x 13 inches. Similarly, the backpack measures 14 x 22 x 3 inches when flat packed, but can expand up to 14 x 22 x 9 inches.

The luggage set is designed for easy interaction. A series of straps and pockets inside the backpack allow the user to quickly organize contents, which can be easily accessed when the backpack is unrolled. Both the handbag and the backpack can increase in size if more contents are packed. The belt length in the backpack will not allow it to close if overall dimensions exceed what is stipulated by airlines as maximum carry-on size.

This luggage set is the result of extensive research and development. The project, which started in December 2014 and finished in June 2015, was based on graduate thesis research conducted at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The design process involved studying the evolution of leisure travel before and after the industrial revolution, understanding how the development of mass transportation influenced luggage design, and interviewing subjects to gain insight on travel practices and opportunities.

In conclusion, the 'errant and cheval' luggage set by Guillermo Fok De Jesus is a testament to innovative design that combines functionality, adaptability, and aesthetic appeal. It is a perfect example of how design can evolve to meet the changing needs of modern travelers, offering a new and efficient solution for the slow travelers of today.
