Taste Connection X: A Multifunctional Bag with a Twist

Chinhua Huang and Chad Fan, the creative minds behind the Taste Connection X, have crafted a multifunctional bag that is not only practical but also a vibrant representation of Taiwanese culture. This unique design, which won the Silver A' Fashion and Travel Accessories Design Award in 2020, is a testament to the designers' innovative approach and commitment to cultural representation.

The inspiration for the Taste Connection X came from two signature elements of Taiwanese daily life: the globally popular bubble tea and the colorful street scenes of Taipei. The bag is designed to be more than just a stylish accessory; it is a souvenir that encapsulates the essence of its origin. The pattern on the waterproof PVC material blends logos from the most popular bubble tea brands in Taiwan, creating a vibrant and unique design.

What sets the Taste Connection X apart is its unique properties. Each bag is made from fabric randomly cut from a roll filled with colorful stripes, ensuring that no two bags have identical colorways. The design is shaped by folding into different forms, with each form defining a specific function. This approach aligns with the brand's motto of making bags as "portable urban impressions from Taiwan".

The bag is made from waterproof PVC, a high-quality synthetic leather that has passed SGS exams. The cotton strap is custom-made with a unique design print, and its adjustability allows the bag to transform into different forms. The bag's specifications cater to various needs, with the backpack mode accommodating A4 documents and laptops ranging from 13" to 15".

Despite the challenges faced during the design process, such as ensuring that no two bags have identical print compositions while maintaining style, the design team successfully overcame these obstacles. The result is a multifunctional bag that is not only practical but also a vibrant representation of Taiwanese culture.

The Taste Connection X is a testament to the designers' commitment to discovering high-potential daily materials and transforming them into valuable design goods. The brand plans to collaborate with cities worldwide, discerning each city's unique images and materials to cultivate cultural economies. This innovative approach to design, coupled with the bag's unique features, has earned it the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2020.
