The MonoPunk series features a backpack vacuum and a mask-incorporated headphone, both of which have been outfitted with leather accents and metal spikes. These unique design elements add a touch of punk aesthetic to otherwise ordinary items, allowing users to showcase their rebellious spirit while performing everyday tasks.
Unlike traditional vacuum cleaners, the MonoPunk backpack vacuum offers a completely different experience. With its punk-inspired design, vacuuming becomes an opportunity to make a bold statement. The mask-incorporated headphones, on the other hand, feature rivets and a steampunk feel, providing a more private and immersive music experience while allowing wearers to express their strong personal identity.
The MonoPunk collection was realized using a combination of materials including ABS, leather, metal, and timber. Rapid prototyping with 3D printing was employed to bring the designer's vision to life. The technical specifications of the headphone are 300*200*450mm, while the vacuum measures 450*350*700mm.
The project, which started in September 2016 and concluded in May 2017, was exhibited at the 36th YODEX Young Designer's Exhibition organized by the Taiwan Design Center. The design process involved extensive research, drawing inspiration from the theory of globalization by German philosopher Peter Sloterdijk. The integration of different components and the exploration of posthumanism were key aspects of the design's underlying research.
One of the main challenges faced during the design process was achieving ergonomic modeling with different materials. However, through innovative techniques and a commitment to excellence, the designer successfully overcame these obstacles, resulting in a collection that seamlessly blends various textures and materials.
The MonoPunk collection has been recognized for its creativity and ingenuity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories category in 2019. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate outstanding technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making a positive impact on the world.
