The Gift: A Unique Residential House Design

Creating a Healthy and Artistic Living Space

The inspiration for The Gift came from the desire to create a healthy shared living space that seamlessly integrates art and nature. By incorporating natural frame views and art paintings, the interior and exterior scenery become part of the life art. Additionally, the design addresses the draining problem in the rainy mountain area through innovative architectural structures and the use of a Nano-Photocatalyst system to lower harmful substances in the air through natural air convection.

What sets The Gift apart from other residential designs is its emphasis on shared art. The renovation of the forty-year-old villa in the mountain area focuses on integrating artistic hand-drawn walls with the surrounding landscape. This integration blurs the boundaries between art and nature, creating a harmonious living environment. The design also takes into account the rainy climate of the mountain area by incorporating slanting glass on the inner side of the aluminum grid exterior, which effectively drains rainwater.

The realization of The Gift involved careful distance counting to ensure that the large number of grids used for the exterior did not obstruct the indoor view. The neutral cold blue furniture and decoration hue serve as a balanced connection between nature and art, while the introduction of stretched leather sofas and lamps adds an exquisite atmosphere. The use of two different floor tile materials with pattern effects and irregular geometrical collage techniques further enhances the artistic style and breaks the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The design of The Gift prioritizes functionality as well. The windows and entrance in three directions create substantial air convection and transform the scenery into art paintings within the interior. The slanting glass on the inner side of the aluminum grid serves multiple functions, including draining rainwater, acting as a flower stand, covering wiring, providing LED light bands, and ensuring privacy. The design also incorporates wheelchair accessibility and eliminates floor height differences to achieve an elderly-friendly environment.

The Gift project, which started in July 2017 in Taichung, Taiwan, and was completed in April 2018, faced numerous challenges. Overcoming the architectural and geographical difficulties of renovating a forty-year-old villa in a mountain area required careful consideration of the view angles, color balance, and natural integration. However, the result is a design that seamlessly combines nature, art, and a friendly living environment.

The Gift has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. The Gift stands out for its incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology, making it a truly remarkable residential house design.
