Happy Hour: A Psychedelic Spinning Bike Room

Unlimited Space and Sensory Experiences

The interaction of neon lights and circular mirrors gives the space psychedelic and visually infinite effects. Happy Hour, designed by VOATT Design Studio, is a spinning bike room that combines visual arts with geometric elements to create an architectural aesthetic. With a capacity of 25 people, this unique space offers users the opportunity to enjoy riding spinning bikes with rhythm while immersing themselves in a visually and audibly stimulating environment.

Happy Hour stands out from other spinning bike rooms due to its innovative use of circular mirrors and neon lights. The narrow rectangular space, measuring only 92 square meters, could easily feel cramped and limited. However, VOATT Design Studio cleverly utilizes circular mirrors with diameters of 150 cm to create the illusion of space extension through reflections. The mirrors, combined with the psychedelic atmosphere created by eco-friendly dark blue paint and neon lights, transform the confined space into an unlimited visual experience.

The materials used in Happy Hour are simple yet effective. The design team repurposed old ceilings and utilized recovered materials, emphasizing sustainability. The black-painted light steel frame structure provides a sleek backdrop for the neon lights, while diffuser plates brighten the indoor environment. The combination of these elements creates a captivating atmosphere that enhances the overall experience of cycling.

Happy Hour's design also incorporates several key features to enhance user interaction and comfort. A lightning-shaped sign at the entrance symbolizes the strength required for athletic endeavors. A glass wall separates the seating area from the exercise area, while lighting effects create a sense of psychedelic ambiance. Within the exercise area, the circular mirrors reflect the interaction between the neon lights and the geometric space, offering users a multi-sensory experience as they cycle.

The project, located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, was completed by VOATT Design Studio between October and November 2018. The design team conducted extensive research, immersing themselves in the spinning bike teaching process and exploring different lighting effects to enhance the exercise experience. Overcoming the challenge of the narrow space, the geometric circular mirrors were strategically employed to increase the aesthetics of the room and create an illusion of boundlessness.

Happy Hour's unique design and attention to detail have earned it recognition in the design community. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

Happy Hour, with its visually stunning and immersive environment, offers a new perspective on spinning bike rooms. By combining art, architecture, and technology, VOATT Design Studio has created a space that transcends physical limitations, providing users with a truly unforgettable experience.
