Tau Lam Hong: A Celebration of Southern Taiwanese Culture

Amingo Huang's Award-Winning Design Fuses Tradition with Innovation

Amingo Huang's design inspiration for Tau Lam Hong, which translates to "soaked in the southern breeze," stemmed from the owner's desire to create a home that resonates with the historical Tainan area. The design encapsulates the traditional residence style of southern Taiwanese, with a sophisticated ceiling design and a visual illusion of a duplex within the condo.

The living room, adorned with ceramic red and decorative window grills, encapsulates the iconic Tainan attributes. Natural light is a significant feature throughout the house, and the flooring and architectural concrete of the kitchen create a semi-open balcony, adding to the uniqueness of the design.

The realization of this design was a collaborative effort between the owner and the designer. The concept was to design 60% of the house, leaving 40% for the owners to infuse their character. The male owner designed and created all the wooden furniture, making Tau Lam Hong a three-year collection of his woodwork.

Washed pebbles, real woods, and other natural components are the main materials used in this project. These long-lasting materials will be enriched as time goes by with human interactions. The SGCC pole outside the walk-in closet, laser-engraved, witnesses the growth of the kids. The kitchen corner overlooking Anping Harbor, the historical cradle of Taiwanese culture and civilization, is where the family gathers to eat, talk, and enjoy peaceful moments.

Antennae Designers Office took a supportive role to concretize the owner's imaginations into executable details. Local cultural elements were decomposed and merged into design details, patterns, and materials. The project, which started in July 2017 and finished in February 2018, is located in Tainan City, Taiwan.

The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
