Square and Round: A Fusion of Nordic Design and Minimalism

Yu-Chi Liu, Chih-Hao Tseng and Kaijie Zhan's Award-Winning Residential Interior Design

The client's desire for a simple home style led the designers to use pure materials such as metal cabinets, painted white walls, and grindstone tiles as the base of the space. With a keen understanding of the owners' need for lighting, the designers reorganized the space to create transparency and fluidity of light and air. This reorganization opened up more than 80% of the space, allowing light to pass through and people to interact freely with each other.

The design was realized using stainless steel, steel brush veneer, system cabinet, baking varnish, and grindstone floor tile. The 92 square meter space was transformed by breaking the original walls and reorganizing the axes of the space. This reorganization not only connected the interior with the view outside the windows but also allowed the owners' pets to enjoy the room without limits, thanks to a hidden mechanism.

One of the main challenges the designers faced was bringing light into the middle dining area, which was originally poorly lit. They also had to create a shared space suitable for both humans and pets. However, with their meticulous design techniques and a deep understanding of the owners' tastes, they were able to overcome these challenges and create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The project was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. It is a testament to the designers' strong technical skills, splendid artistic ability, and their commitment to creating spaces that evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
