Every design detail can affect the living experience of the owner, and Zen Industry is no exception. The main purpose of this design is to abandon traditional styles and instead mix simple contemporary styles while highlighting a certain subject - Zenism. In consideration of the owner's preferences, traditional Chinese decorative patterns were dismissed in favor of the matching of material colors to create the most appropriate Zen sense.
Realizing this design was no easy feat. The owner, an engineer, desired a home with an industrial flavor while also maintaining a warm and Zen atmosphere. It took Eric Tam and the owner more than four months of designing and modification to achieve the desired effect.
The most challenging aspect of this project was combining contemporary and Zenism elements in one living space. While Zenism is often associated with traditional, ordinary, and dull aesthetics, the modern thinking of the client perfectly blended both elements, resulting in a harmonious and unique design.
Zen Industry, which started in May 2014 in Macau and was completed in August 2015, was featured in Modern Home Magazine (Hong Kong) in October 2015. This exceptional design was recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2016. The award highlights the outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill demonstrated in Zen Industry, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
With Zen Industry, Eric Tam has created a fulfilling home that combines the best of contemporary design with the calming essence of Zenism. This unique blend offers the owner a space to relax, unwind, and find tranquility in the midst of industrial elements.
