The Jiuxitang Model House

A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

The Jiuxitang Model House, designed by Yanming Yin, seamlessly combines traditional courtyard concepts with contemporary urban landscapes, creating a unique living space that reflects the leisurely lifestyle of Chengdu, China.

The Jiuxitang Model House is a testament to the designer's deep understanding of contemporary tastes and lifestyle needs. It successfully blends modern luxury with natural and humanistic elements, while staying true to the leisurely essence of Chengdu. The result is a design that exudes both elegance and tranquility, capturing the beauty of a garden and the allure of a fragrant oasis.

The design of the Jiuxitang Model House incorporates a variety of materials that evoke a sense of natural landscapes and traditional Chinese art. Stone materials with natural textures, champagne-golden stainless steel accents, dark grey wooden panels, warm grey wallpapers, artistic glass, and stone mosaic surfaces all come together to create a harmonious and visually stunning space. The inclusion of natural creature symbols and artistic installations adds a touch of mystic depth to the overall design.

The Jiuxitang Model House is divided into two floors. The first floor is designed for functionality and ease of movement, with spaces dedicated to guest dining, the elderly, and laundry. The second floor, on the other hand, provides a serene and static space with rooms for the master, boys, and girls.

One of the central design ideas behind the Jiuxitang Model House is to create a collaged folded space that reflects the life of a typical Chinese family spanning three generations. By juxtaposing elements of tradition and modernity, landscape and domesticity, and old and young generations, the design creates communicative and symbolic spaces that promote peaceful living.

The Jiuxitang Model House project began in May 2017 in Shenzhen and was completed in January 2018 in Chengdu, China. Throughout the design process, the team faced challenges such as tight construction deadlines, a limited budget, and the installation of various materials with different textures. However, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a design that not only responds to local cultural identity but also bridges the gap between eastern tradition and modern creativity.

The Jiuxitang Model House has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that showcase ingenuity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through the integration of art, science, design, and technology.

With its seamless blend of tradition and modernity, the Jiuxitang Model House stands as a testament to the designer's ability to create spaces that are not only visually stunning but also reflect the needs and desires of contemporary lifestyles.
