Whole Foods Market, Davie FL, designed by King Retail Solutions (KRS), is a grocery retail project that celebrates the history, geography, and culture of Davie, Florida. Inspired by the city's unique heritage and values, the design incorporates elements from Native American textile patterning, colonial American materials, and nautical themes. The color palette adds a modern, beachy vibe to the store, creating a bright and inviting space for shoppers.
The design of Whole Foods Market, Davie FL is characterized by its use of distinct materials, color combinations, and internal destination headlines. By incorporating elements such as repurposed cypress barn wood, upcycled rusted hardware, and nautical rope, the design creates a connection to the city's history and culture. The store features murals hand-painted onto brick, antiqued wood and rope signage, and routed and hand-stained wood signage. These unique touches add a rustic and authentic feel to the space.
The design team at KRS paid attention to every detail, using materials such as fireclay, glass, leather, metal, stainless steel, tin, and wood to create a visually stunning environment. The store covers an area of 46,000 square feet, with 28,000 square feet dedicated to the sales floor. The design includes a decor package, graphics, and signage for the store, as well as the selection of interior and exterior seating area furniture.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was creating a modern, bright, rustic store without falling into cliché western design tropes. The team also had to find ways to fit a variety of destination areas and decor into a low-ceiling space, working closely with the architect to raise lights and increase visibility. Additionally, they had to create individual looks and feels for different areas within the store, such as the restaurant, bar, and butcher, while maintaining an overarching environmental theme.
The design of Whole Foods Market, Davie FL is not only visually appealing but also functional. The store offers a wide range of amenities, including a Guacamole Station, Bar, Sushi Restaurant, Sandwich Deli, Pizzeria, Hot/Cold Salad Bar, Juice Bar, and Coffee/Tea Shop. Each micro-restaurant provides seating, and there is also central seating along a front wall lined with bright, open windows.
The Whole Foods Market, Davie FL project was launched in February 2014 and the store opened its doors in February 2015. The design team conducted extensive research to ensure that the design captured the essence of Davie, Florida. They drew inspiration from the city's equestrian culture, incorporating elements that have an equestrian but not southwestern feel. The design also includes geometric patterns based on the symbolic storytelling employed by local Seminole Americans in basket-weaving.
The design of Whole Foods Market, Davie FL has received recognition for its creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2015 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contribute to quality of life improvements, and make the world a better place.
Whole Foods Market, Davie FL is a testament to the power of design to celebrate history, culture, and community. By incorporating elements from the city's past and present, the design creates a unique and engaging shopping experience for residents and visitors alike.
