Pivot: A Multifunctional Shelf Designed by Hiroyuki Sugiyama

Adaptable Living with Flexibility and Personalization

Adaptable Living is a concept that shows how allowing the individual to customize and change their furnishings around their own lifestyle, creates a new connection and awareness to one's own furniture and creating a comfortable and fun living environment. It is inspired by Japanese small housing, which minimizes the usage of space with interesting designs and ideas.

Hiroyuki Sugiyama, a renowned designer, has created a truly unique and versatile piece of furniture called Pivot. This multifunctional shelf is designed to adapt to various living spaces and offers a range of possibilities for customization and personalization.

The key feature of Pivot is its flexibility. It can be placed in multiple locations around the home or office, allowing for endless placement ideas. The shelves can be positioned into a straight position, catty corner to match the angle of the walls, or simply become a partition. This adaptability makes Pivot a perfect fit for any space, no matter the size or layout.

One of the standout features of Pivot is its main frame, which doubles as a clothes hanger rack. This innovative design allows users to hang their clothes in a stylish and functional way. Additionally, the main frame can be used as a personal home gallery, where photos and art can be displayed inside the frame. This unique feature adds a touch of creativity and personalization to any living space.

The Pivot shelf is made from high-quality oak wood, ensuring durability and longevity. The use of oak wood not only adds a touch of elegance to the design but also enhances its sturdiness. The careful selection of materials and attention to detail are evident in every aspect of Pivot's construction.

With its sleek and modern design, Pivot seamlessly blends into any interior style. Whether it's a minimalist Scandinavian-inspired space or a vibrant and eclectic room, this multifunctional shelf adds a touch of sophistication and functionality.

The inspiration behind Pivot comes from Hiroyuki Sugiyama's deep understanding and experience of Japanese living. In Japan, where space is limited, maximizing the usage of available space is essential for comfortable living. Pivot embodies this philosophy by offering a solution that optimizes space utilization without compromising on style and functionality.

Creating a functional pivot was not without its challenges. The design team had to ensure that the shelf could pivot easily and stand at an even level in all positions without tilting to one side. Through extensive research and development, they were able to overcome these challenges and create a truly remarkable piece of furniture.

Pivot was first exhibited during the 'SaloneSatellite 2018 - Salone del Mobile Milano' and has since garnered attention and acclaim. In 2019, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

With flexibility and personalization as its main features, Pivot offers a new way of interacting with furniture and living spaces. It is a testament to the power of design to transform our homes and create environments that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
