gad's Innovative Design Transforms a Former Driving School into a Music School

The Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, designed by gad, is a unique architectural marvel that incorporates the site's history and the principles of acoustics into its design. The site, once a driving school, has been transformed into a music school, with the memory of the site being transferred into continuous ramps and tunnel-like doorways. The façade, reminiscent of bare mountain seams, blends into the natural surroundings while maintaining its originality and conspicuousness.

The design is based on the trapezoid, a shape known for its outstanding acoustical properties. This motif is used throughout the building, with modifications and adjustments made to suit the scale of the building. The different functional spaces and yards all develop from the combination and redesign of this motif, creating a unique and harmonious learning environment for the students.
