ONE: Redefining Urban Architecture with a Sculptural Design

ONE, a stunning office building located in Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil, is redefining the urban architecture landscape with its unique and iconic design. Designed by Rodrigo Kirck, this project aims to create a landmark that not only stands out visually but also enhances the user experience and the relationship between the building and its surroundings.

The inspiration for ONE came from the concept of Generation Y and their connection to the urban environment. The design team wanted to create a building that would resonate with this generation while also providing a functional and visually appealing space. The result is a sculptural metallic mask that wraps around the concrete structure, transforming it from a heavy volume to a sinuous form.

One of the key features of ONE is its scenic lighting system, which utilizes high-performance LED technology. This lighting system not only enhances the visual appeal of the building but also serves as a reflection of the project's conceptual design. The use of galvanized steel and ACM (Aluminum Composite Material) in the construction further adds to the uniqueness of the design.

The sculptural mask, with a height of 16 meters and a length of 58 meters, covers two facades of the building, creating an urban visual landmark. It serves the dual purpose of reducing the visual impact of the building's base and providing a captivating element for pedestrians and passersby.

Designing and realizing ONE was not without its challenges. The project faced resistance from customers and builders who were initially hesitant to embrace such an iconic and innovative design for a commercial building. Additionally, the lack of investment in constructive design and innovation in smaller cities in Brazil made it even more challenging to bring this project to life. However, the perseverance and vision of the design team led to the successful completion of ONE.

The completion of ONE in June 2018 marked a significant milestone in the architectural landscape of Itajai. The building stands as a testament to the power of innovative design and its ability to transform spaces and create a positive impact on society. It has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2019, which celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

With its organic design, iconic presence, and urban reference, ONE has become a symbol of modern architecture and a source of inspiration for future projects. Rodrigo Kirck and his team have successfully reimagined the traditional office building, creating a space that not only serves its functional purpose but also adds beauty and vibrancy to the cityscape.
