Agile 4525L: Redefining Passenger Seats with Innovation and Style

A New Generation Travel-Mate for Short Distance Passengers

The Agile 4525L passenger seat, designed by Ufuk Bircan Özkan, is revolutionizing the way we perceive and experience seating in short-distance transportation. With its dynamic lines, unique twist form, and innovative features, this seat offers both functional advantages and a fresh aesthetic perception.

The inspiration for the Agile 4525L came from the infinity symbol, which is prominently featured in the designer's company logo. Özkan combined the front and side surfaces of conventional seats into one, creating a seamless and visually striking design. The flowing dynamic lines were chosen to convey a sense of speed and agility, perfect for quick short-distance transportations. The plastic side covers were inspired by the sleek forms of road cars, adding a touch of elegance to the overall design.

What sets the Agile 4525L apart from its rivals is its ability to break free from clichés. The dynamic lines that flow forward at the sides and sweep upwards at the back give the seat a sense of pace and energy. The twist form at the backrest not only adds to its extraordinary aesthetic perception but also enhances the functionality of the safety belts, ensuring efficient operation and preventing hunchbacks. The height-adaptive belts, a result of extensive user research, can adapt to passengers of any height without the need for adjustments.

The Agile 4525L is not just about looks; it offers a range of features that enhance the passenger experience. The dual-function button on the side panel allows for simultaneous backrest reclining and lateral adjustment, providing customizable comfort. The magazine net on the rear side can hold magazines in A4 size, keeping passengers entertained during their journey. Additionally, a special mobile device pocket allows passengers to safely store their phones within reach.

The realization of the Agile 4525L involved a combination of traditional and modern production techniques. The design was first conceptualized through sketches and digital models before being transformed into 3D data on CAD. Prototypes were created using 3D printing and vacuum forming, allowing for testing and refinement. The final product is produced using conventional mid-level production technologies, with molded seat foams and laser-cut metal parts that are manually and robotically welded.

With a modular construction system, the Agile 4525L offers flexibility and adaptability. The backrest, seat, and chassis are separate bodies, allowing for easy customization and integration into various vehicle configurations. In a two-seat configuration, the Agile 4525L measures 953mm in total width, 742mm in depth, and 1140mm in height, weighing 34.5Kg.

The Agile 4525L project started in Bursa in January 2017 and was completed in October 2018. The first prototype was exhibited in October 2017 at Busworld Kortrijk, while the finished product was announced in September 2018 at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 in Hannover.

Recognized for its outstanding design and technical ingenuity, the Agile 4525L received the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award honors designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. With its innovative features, sleek design, and attention to detail, the Agile 4525L is setting new standards in passenger seating and paving the way for a more comfortable and technologically advanced future.
