Entangled Hands: A Fusion of Digital and Traditional Techniques

Nils Hansen's Award-Winning Sculpture Symbolizes Love and Unity

The inspiration behind Entangled Hands was to emphasize the beauty and elegance of hands. As the most versatile elements of the body, hands interact daily with the environment and express a multitude of things. The sculpture forms a symbol of love, representing the unification of two beings merging into one another. They seem to perform a sensual dance, its beat given through the steps of the sliced forms.

The sculpture's unique properties lie in its elongated fingers and the fused base, forming a long winding movement so the sculpture's energy is kept within the inherent triangle of the silhouette. This innovative approach to sculpture was nominated for the Award for Innovation of the Amateras Paper Art Exhibition in 2015.

Entangled Hands is modelled digitally and then cut out of 3mm cardboard. The pieces are then assembled together. The last process is to create a negative form in Silicone which is then used as a casting mold for the Bronze form. The final sculpture stands at a height of 26 cm, with a width of 16cm and a depth of 10cm.

The project, which started in 2014 in Berlin, has been recognized for its creativity and professional excellence. The design was awarded Silver in A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award in 2019. The Silver A' Design Award is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
