Groove desk lamp is designed with the modern office worker in mind. It addresses two common issues faced by many: forgetting to turn off the desk lamp when leaving and misplacing pens on the cluttered desktop. By combining the functions of a desk lamp and a pen tray, Groove provides a practical and efficient solution.

When you need to use the desk lamp, simply remove the pen from the tray, and the lamp will automatically turn on. This innovative interaction not only saves time but also encourages users to develop the habit of turning off the lights and saving electricity. When you're finished working, place the pen back into the base pen tray, and the desk lamp will automatically turn off, ensuring energy efficiency.

The design of Groove is both elegant and functional. The main body is made of injection-molded ABS plastic, ensuring durability and a sleek aesthetic. The automatic switching of the lamp is achieved through a sensor located at the recess of the base. This sensor detects the presence of an object in the slot, controlling the lamp's automatic switching.

With a base width of 140mm, length of 190mm, and height of 16mm, Groove is compact and space-saving. When folded, it stands at a height of 404mm, providing ample lighting coverage for your workspace. The knob on the base allows for easy brightness adjustment, as well as serving as the switch for the console light.

The development of Groove began in Hangzhou in October 2018 and was completed in Wuhan in January 2019. The design team, consisting of Ruiqing Hu and Jun Zhang, focused on enhancing the interactive experience of a desk lamp while keeping costs low. By conforming to people's behavioral habits, Groove offers a user-friendly and cost-effective solution.

The innovative design of Groove faced several challenges during its development. The team initially focused on the interaction mode, ensuring that users could easily understand and utilize the lamp's features. They also paid close attention to the arrangement of the light source to prevent glare and optimize the user experience.

Groove has been recognized for its ingenuity and creativity, receiving the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. This award is bestowed upon designs that exemplify resourcefulness and contribute to improving quality of life.
