ShiCheng Invest: Blending Traditional Chinese Culture with Modern Design Elements

Living Room Design by Xiaorui Zhou

The designer Xiaorui Zhou created an anteroom that seamlessly blends traditional Chinese culture with modern design elements. Inspired by the famous painting "Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival" and the 64 hexagrams of Zhouyi, this design creates a unique and harmonious space where tradition and modernity coexist.

The ShiCheng Invest living room design stands out with its incorporation of traditional Chinese elements into a modern setting. The designer's intention was to create a space that reflects the essence of Chinese culture while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic. By infusing oriental elements with modern materials, the design achieves a perfect balance, emphasizing the spatial theme.

The design concept draws from the traditional Chinese folk houses, specifically the "one courtyard," "two courtyard," and "three courtyard" layout. The hall represents the corporate culture, while the courtroom serves as a space for rendezvous and negotiation. The facade features 32 capsule-shaped sculptures, divided into two and combined with the 64 hexagrams of China. This decorative solution injects vitality into the space, making it more than just a physical structure.

The realization of the design involved careful attention to detail. The space features a traditional surround layout with clear and simple moving lines. The choice of soft and comfortable cloth art, combined with real wood, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The central ceiling is adorned with an arc chandelier, shaped like bamboo, which adds a touch of elegance and simplicity. The design aims to create a sense of unity between water and sky, blending the natural and the artificial.

The ShiCheng Invest living room design covers an area of 120 square meters. It was completed between November 2017 and March 2018 in Shanghai. The project required extensive research to achieve the perfect balance between traditional and modern artistic conceptions. By using modern materials to showcase traditional patterns, the design presents a more contemporary and lightweight form.

One of the main challenges faced by the designer was blending Oriental culture with modernity in a balanced and controlled manner. The goal was to create a modern office space that also serves as a reception area, incorporating the core elements of Chinese culture. The result is a space that encourages calm and pragmatic conversations, fostering a harmonious exchange of ideas.

The ShiCheng Invest living room design has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
