The Little World: Creating a Unique Lifestyle in a Tiny Space

Designing a Multifunctional and Stylish Residential Space

In the era of high housing prices, small-space apartments have become increasingly common in cities. In order to meet the needs of homeowners and create a unique little world, designer Jing Kai Yang has transformed a 53-square-meter apartment in New Taipei City into a stylish and functional living space.

Inspired by the homeowner's love for blue and white, the design team used these colors as an embellishment throughout the space. By carefully selecting colors and materials, they aimed to showcase the homeowner's unique lifestyle.

One of the key challenges in this project was the fragmentation of the space due to the separation of the entrance, dining room, and cigar room. To address this, the design team created a multi-functional wall that serves as a shoes cabinet, dining table bench, and cigar room TV wall. This wall seamlessly connects the different areas, creating a bright and relaxed atmosphere.

The wall itself is made of cement and hand-painted with a special paint mixture. The authenticity of the cement reflects the traces of the construction process, adding a unique touch to the space.

Another innovative feature of this design is the creation of a negative pressure environment for the cigar room. Equipped with an air conditioner and glass well, this space ensures transparency and isolation, allowing the homeowner to enjoy their hobby in a comfortable and controlled environment.

Despite the limited space, the design team managed to create a spacious master bedroom by replacing the wardrobe with a multifunctional dressing room. This decision not only maximizes the available space but also provides the homeowner with a larger bed for a better rest.

The project, which started in May 2019 and was completed in August 2019, has received recognition for its innovative and practical design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This award recognizes designs that meet professional and industrial requirements while providing fulfillment and positive feelings.

With The Little World, Jing Kai Yang has successfully transformed a small-space apartment into a unique and stylish living environment. By incorporating innovative design solutions and paying attention to the homeowner's lifestyle, this project showcases the possibilities of creating a comfortable and functional home, even in limited spaces.
