Sequence of Sight: A New Vision in Residential Design

ShinYi Lin's Innovative Approach to Modern Living Spaces

ShinYi Lin's inspiration for "Sequence of Sight" came from a challenge: a space with only one window, limiting the entry of sunlight and air. Her solution was to create a route for these essentials, linking spaces with ambiguous divisions and adding a touch of calm with an achromatic grey base. This approach not only solved the initial problem but also resulted in a modern, dignified living style that is both elegant and chic.

What sets "Sequence of Sight" apart from other designs is its unique layout. ShinYi Lin re-modified the layout to give the public region an open and fresh atmosphere, while the private bedrooms still preserve their own bathtub-embedded bathrooms. The space is designed with no specific boundaries; the foyer extends to the restaurant area, storage spaces are hidden behind the exhibition cave, and the display library serves as an invisible stop separating the public from private.

Realizing this design required innovative technology and meticulous planning. To maintain storage capacity while presenting a grand size stone material as the door coverage, ShinYi Lin used multiple hinges, including an electric sliding track to carry a door weighing more than 100KG. She also used magic invisible back embedded sliding tracks to create a boundary-less or lightweight wall frame, hiding the existence of the doors. Additionally, electric glass films were used in the bathroom to give the room a great painting on the wall.

The project, which started in June 2014 and finished in August 2016, was not without its challenges. The hinge tests alone lasted more than eight months to ensure their correct and safe usage at home. Over 20 kinds of hinges were tried out among different materials to improve performance. The procedure of integrating the parts together was altered at least five times for these doors where the hinges were applied. Calculation on the total weight on each door and exact dimension of them were also being strictly marked down as references.

"Sequence of Sight" is a testament to ShinYi Lin's innovative approach to design, combining functionality, elegance, and a unique approach to space utilization. This design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, is a fresh perspective on modern living spaces, offering a new vision in residential design.
