Hyatt Place: A Fantastic Journey Through Design

BLVD International's Award-Winning Design for Hyatt Place Hotel in Sanya

Based on Hyatt Place's brand concept of young fashion and business casual, Honglei Liu drew inspiration from the visual symbols of Sanya culture, providing guests with a fresh and natural experience. The design introduces dynamic "waves" into the still space, continuing and expanding in the body of the heterogeneous buildings, stirring the song of the mellow seaside city.

The unique properties of the design lie in its simple and comfortable spaces, created using a concise design language. Wavy ceilings, sandstone texture walls, and sculptures of fish tails open the story of Sanya in silence. The open-air swimming pool turns waves and whirlpools into large and small circles, breaking the inherent squareness and dullness of a conventional design.

Neutral colors and texture materials like light-tone wood, grass weave materials, and textured sandstone are used for most of the interior surface. Art laminated glass surrounds the elevator hall, sparking the rhythm from the sea to the beach, contrasting with the ocean theme colorful carpet, art, and sculptures. The bar and Reception desk, surrounded by a hemispherical metal chandelier, increase spatial change, creating a relaxed atmosphere of a "Home from Home".

The design project, which started in October 2014, was completed in June 2018 in Sanya. It involved the design of 2 Lobbies, Bar Lounge, ADD, meeting rooms, Health club, and 238 rooms which occupy the 23rd to 36th floors of the tallest building in Sanya, known as the oasis in the center of China Hawaii due to its beautiful arc shape.

One of the challenges encountered during the design process was distinguishing the business hotel with local characteristics from others in the tourism-driven city. In specific design, moisture and mildew-resistant materials were used since Sanya has a tropical maritime monsoon climate.

The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
