European Film Festival in Cuba: A Voyage Through Cinema

Daniel Plutín Amigó's Award-Winning Design of a Cultural Odyssey

Unveiling the unique design concept behind the European Film Festival in Cuba, an artistic journey that bridges cultures, crafted by the visionary Daniel Plutín Amigó.

Europe, a continent teeming with diverse cultures and histories, has always been a magnet for travelers. However, the journey isn't always physical. Cinema, since its inception, has been a vessel for such voyages, allowing creators and audiences to explore infinite destinations. This notion of travel through cinema, coupled with its impact on learning and understanding, inspired the visual identity of the European Film Festival in Cuba.

Daniel Plutín Amigó, the mastermind behind the festival's design, aimed to create a sense of belonging. The festival's design, awarded through a bidding process, showcases a compilation of cinematic works that reflect the culture and lifestyle of the "Old Continent". It offers audiences a chance to engage with diverse perspectives on subjects of common interest.

The European Film Festival in Cuba is an annual event organized by the European Union Delegation in Cuba and the Embassies of the Member States, in collaboration with the Cuban Institute of the Art and Film Industry (ICAIC). The realization of this project was a unique experience for all participants, fostering cultural exchange and personal growth.

The festival's design, encapsulated in serigraphic posters measuring 50 x 70 cm, tells the story of a sea voyage, a common thread between Europe and the Caribbean. The slogan, "Cinema, ahoy!", perfectly captures the spirit of the event as a beacon of cultural exchange. The design of the invitations and tickets, inspired by passports and boarding passes, further enhances the travel theme.

The main challenge of the project was to develop a relevant and sustainable concept that could engage the public in an accessible space for exchanging experiences. The design successfully met this challenge, providing an opportunity for audiences to better appreciate and contextualize our universal history.

The design's unique properties and innovative approach earned it the Silver A' Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design Award in 2019. This prestigious accolade is given to top-tier, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
