Childlike Purity: An Innovative Blend of Commercial and Residential Design

Jia-Ru Chen's Award-Winning Design Transforms Office Spaces with Japanese Elegance

Embodying the essence of childlike purity, Jia-Ru Chen's design infuses commercial spaces with residential charm. Inspired by the new Japanese elegant style, this design is a testament to the transformative power of interior design and its ability to create spaces that are not only functional but also emotionally engaging.

Jia-Ru Chen's design, aptly named "Childlike Purity," is a two-floor commercial space that breaks the mold of traditional office design. The first floor, designed as a display space, features a living room, dining room, and kitchen. These areas are divided by structural beams, creating a sense of distinct yet interconnected spaces. Clear glass sliding doors enhance the visual perception, creating an illusion of a larger, more expansive space.

The second floor houses an open office, with an additional office room on the side. This floor also features a void space reserved for office furniture and changes in business operations. A small lounge on the left provides a relaxing space for employees, offering a view of the outdoors and creating a people-oriented working environment.

The design's unique properties lie in its ability to promote products to clients in a more informative and pragmatic manner. By constructing the commercial space on the basis of residential design, clients are able to better visualize the products in a real-life setting. This innovative approach to commercial design has earned Jia-Ru Chen the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.

Despite its commercial function, the design maintains a sense of warmth and elegance, thanks to the use of delicate light brown colors and log furniture. The storage cabinets, part of the system furniture, are exhibited on both sides adjoining the area with the lower floor. The contrast of colors between the wood planks and edges adds a stylish touch, while the white edges and delicate textures of elms invigorate the space. A swing chair and lighting fixtures add a touch of childlike charm, reinforcing the design's theme of purity.

Completed in October 2018 in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, the "Childlike Purity" design project is a testament to Jia-Ru Chen's innovative approach to interior design. By blending commercial and residential design elements, Chen has created a space that is not only functional and informative but also emotionally engaging, proving that office spaces can be more than just places of work.
