Tianshan Gate of The World: A New Icon in Shijiazhuang

Aedas' Large-Scale Urban Mixed-Use Project Redefines City Skyline

The Tianshan Gate of The World is a unique architectural marvel that draws its inspiration from the core spirit of Chinese philosophy: the unity of heaven and man. The design of the tower mirrors the curvy form of Chinese zither strings, expressing the beauty and rhythmic flow of long dancing sleeves. This project is a testament to Aedas' innovative approach to design, merging cultural elements with modern architectural techniques.

Located in the new city center of Shijiazhuang, the project comprises a 450m tall International Finance Center skyscraper with its retail podium, a 150m Medical tower, eight 100m serviced apartment towers, eight Grade-A office towers, and a central retail street. The skyscraper houses Grade-A offices, a 5-star hotel, serviced apartments, restaurants, and a sky club with an observatory 360° spiral flying deck and an infinity pool at the top.

The project utilizes advanced technology and sustainable materials in its realization. Double Low-E glass is used to reduce heat gain through window opening, and external fins provide effective shading to the building envelope. The biophilia design concept is introduced to connect the building more to nature, improving temperature control and reducing energy use in sky gardens. Recyclable materials are selected to reduce virgin material use and solid waste volume, and regional materials are used to minimize pollution from delivery to the construction site.

The project is a collaboration of a talented design team led by Project Architect Pierre Tong. The team has overcome creative, technical, and research challenges to bring this design to life. The four-storey commercial podium consists of an 'urban living room', high-end retails, a healthcare center, an ice-world entertainment zone, a conference center with a bio-climatic roof garden, and six sky gardens on different levels offering unique vertical spaces.

The Tianshan Gate of The World project started in February 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2025. This design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, winning the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2019. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advancing art, science, design, and technology.
