Unveiling Cedea: The Luxury Mineral Water Inspired by Dolomite Legends

Designers Nick Pitscheider and Sharon Hassan Bring Dolomite Legends to Life in a Bottle

Immerse in the tale of Cedea, a luxury mineral water brand that draws inspiration from the Dolomite mountains' Enrosadira phenomenon and the legend of the Goddess of Water and Life. Discover how designers Nick Pitscheider and Sharon Hassan transformed these narratives into a unique, vibrant, and elegant bottle design.

The Cedea bottle, a manifestation of the Dolomite legends, is an embodiment of beauty, poetry, nature, purity, and lifestyle. The design is inspired by the Enrosadira phenomenon, where the Dolomites light up in a reddish hue at sunrise and sunset, creating a magical ambiance. The bottle's colors are designed to mimic this special glow, creating a surprising colorful effect that makes the water glare and shine vibrantly.

What sets the Cedea bottle apart is its first-class quality glass, tall and smooth, with a thick colored bottom sculpted with the Cedea rose symbol. This design element generates a unique color glare effect spreading through the water, highlighted by the twisting vertical lines that give the bottle a delicate spiral asymmetric shape. This shape is reminiscent of the natural form of Cedea, the Goddess of Water and Life.

The production of the Cedea bottle is a testament to the designers' commitment to quality and uniqueness. The bottle is made of first-quality white glass, with the bottom color varnished and unusually thick to allow the embedding of the Cedea rose symbol. This thickness also emphasizes the "lens effect" that makes the symbol very visible in its carvings. The bottle's shape, with three vertical engraved twisting lines, gives it a delicate asymmetry, a natural and unique silhouette that was challenging to achieve.

The Cedea water bottle comes in two qualities, Still and Sparkling, and in two sizes. The Still Cedea water bottle is colored in pinky red, while the Sparkling Cedea water is colored in turquoise. The primary bottle is 750ml in size, while the half size bottle is 375ml. The cap is in sleek aluminum delicately marked.

The design process for the Cedea bottle was not without challenges. The designers sought to create a unique, exclusive, yet elegant and memorable packaging. The prototyping and experimentation phase was complex, as understanding the reaction of water to reflections and refraction is not an easy task. Despite these challenges, the designers were able to bring all the elements together to form the final bottle in a feasible way cost-wise.

The Cedea design has garnered recognition for its innovation and creativity, winning the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2019. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The Cedea bottle design, with its unique color glare effect and delicate asymmetry, certainly fits this description.
