Introducing Cloud, a groundbreaking design by Xiwen Guo that has revolutionized the concept of a laboratory. With its open and free-flowing functional areas, Cloud breaks away from the traditional stereotypes of laboratories and embraces a beautiful and innovative approach.
Designed as a university project, Cloud showcases its historical features through a large screen of dimming images, creating a captivating and immersive experience. This design not only prioritizes aesthetics but also adheres to the principles of environmental protection. Various energy-saving measures and environmentally friendly materials have been incorporated into the project, making it a true testament to sustainable design.
The unique properties of Cloud set it apart from other designs in its category. Spanning an impressive 700 square meters, this microfilm and media creative laboratory encompasses a range of functional areas, including a creative area, rehearsal area, performance area, naked-eye 3D laboratory, behavior observation room, and floating island broadcasting area. It boasts advanced technological features such as intelligent control, holographic projection, and data mining and analysis.
Cloud also incorporates cutting-edge technology to ensure a sustainable and eco-friendly environment. It utilizes a self-circulating rainwater collection and purification system, as well as an air negative ion regeneration system. These features not only enhance the functionality of the laboratory but also contribute to a greener future.
Constructed using GRG, tempered glass, and glass steel, Cloud is a testament to the seamless integration of technology, beauty, and nature. The design team, led by Chief Designer Xiwen Guo, overcame various challenges in communicating with different departments and interpreting the high-tech laboratory in the most simplistic design language.
Cloud was completed in December 2012 in Nanjing, China, after months of meticulous research and understanding of the functions and specifications of each functional area. The result is a laboratory that merges independent areas into a cohesive whole, fostering collaboration and creativity.
Recognized for its outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, Cloud was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious accolade acknowledges designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
