Amigo's Kitchen: A Unique and Inviting Restaurant Design

Creating a Welcoming Space for Family and Young Patrons

A small given space about (1160 sq.ft.) design with variety of seating areas and ambience that would generate inviting and comfortable space for family as well as young patrons.

Amigo's Kitchen, designed by Amruta Daulatabadkar Architects, is a restaurant that stands out with its unique and inviting design. The project was driven by a young enthusiast client who wanted to create a completely new concept for a restaurant, with an experimental approach. The design development started with the roof design, drawing inspiration from the idea of bringing in natural light through alternative opening flaps in a diagonal grid.

One of the challenges of the location, situated on a busy road, was to create a space that would be secluded from noise disturbance while still providing privacy and an open and inviting entrance. The design successfully achieved this by incorporating glass partitions to visually connect the indoor and outdoor seating areas, as well as wire cut bricks for partitions between different spaces.

The design of Amigo's Kitchen also prioritized the use of locally available and affordable materials, such as metal sheets, wire cut bricks, and local craftsmanship. The metal sheets were manually rusted on-site to resemble the effect of corten steel, adding an industrial touch to the space. Vitrified flooring was used throughout the indoor and outdoor areas, while colored bajara glass was introduced to add texture and break the monochromatic color theme.

The design team also paid attention to the lighting design, ensuring that it complemented the overall ambiance and avoided any shadow effects created by the roof metal panels. Customized tables, consoles, and sofas were incorporated into the design, while chairs were procured to suit the space.

With a spatial layout that connects indoor and outdoor spaces, Amigo's Kitchen offers a variety of seating areas, including indoor seating, outdoor seating, step-down seating, and a mocktail section. The staggered placement of outdoor parapets, art installations, brick partitions, glass partitions, and a cash counter enhances the visual connectivity from both inside and outside the restaurant.

The design of Amigo's Kitchen was executed with limited budget and time constraints, making it a testament to the creative and technical skills of the design team. The use of local craftsmen and affordable materials in various forms allowed for the realization of this unique and inviting restaurant design.

Amigo's Kitchen was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This recognition highlights the outstanding and creatively ingenious design that authentically incorporates experience and resourcefulness. The design showcases strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in the quality of life and making the world a better place.
