Apartment by the Sea

Residence Inspired by Santorini

This sea-facing apartment in Mumbai draws inspiration from the serene beauty of Santorini in Greece, with a design that showcases a fusion of modern and classical elements.

Designed by Behzad Kharas, this luxurious residence is located in one of Mumbai's most prestigious buildings. The client's vision was to create a house that exudes tranquility, using white and blue as the primary colors. The layout of the apartment remained unchanged, allowing the design to build upon the existing structure.

The base marble supplied by the developers was beige, which served as the starting point for the design. Kharas and his team incorporated white, grey, blue, silver, steel, and mirror as the main colors and materials. The result is a harmonious blend of hues and textures that evoke a sense of calmness and elegance.

The living room was strategically designed to take advantage of the apartment's large windows, offering breathtaking views of the sea. A pocket area of seating was created, facing the sea, with a sculptural light piece in the corner that frames the view. To enhance the ambiance, a backlit alabaster wall was installed, providing soft, mood lighting.

The son's bedroom features 3D molded MDF panels in white, blue, and grey, giving it a modern and stylish look. The dining room is separated from the kitchen by a wooden screen, which serves as a display area for artifacts. On the other side, a transparent glass partition allows a glimpse into the kitchen, creating an open and inviting atmosphere.

A long linear corridor leads to the master bedroom, which is adorned with mirrors to reduce the number of elements in the space. The master bedroom door, finished in blue leatherite, stands out against the mirrored backdrop. Inside, a large walk-in wardrobe adds functionality and complements the base palette of white and grey with touches of peach and aqua green.

The daughter's room features a warmer color scheme, with a beige smoked teak veneer and an artistic tree mural as the central focus element. The guest bedroom embraces a semi-classical design, incorporating maroon and green tones, as per the client's preferences.

With a total area of 3,800 sq.ft., this apartment showcases the seamless integration of design and functionality. The project, which commenced in July 2016 and was completed in March 2018, reflects the client's desire for a serene and luxurious living space.

Behzad Kharas and his team have successfully transformed this apartment into a coastal retreat, capturing the essence of Santorini's beauty. The design's unique blend of modern and classical elements, combined with the use of carefully selected colors and materials, creates a truly exceptional living experience.

This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. It exemplifies the best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to an improved quality of life.
