Omdesign's 2018 packaging design is inspired by 875 years of Portuguese history. The design is a simple, unique piece that stands out for its boldness and ambition, reflecting the agency's values since its inception in 1998. This self-promotion edition is a journey to the origins of Portugal and the Portuguese Discoveries, encapsulating the agency's vision for the future.

The packaging design features a sisal-based piece, shaped like a monkey's fist knot, a popular knot used by sailors in olden times. Inside the packaging is a bottle of Madeira wine, chosen specifically to toast with partners and clients. The bottle's neck features a sling knot and an illustration on the label that represents the audacity of the Portuguese navigators in the past. The packaging is completed with a premium cardboard tube featuring an ancient map and the agency's 20th-anniversary logo marked using sealing wax.

The unique properties of this design lie in its historical references and the innovative use of materials and techniques. The monkey's fist knot serves as a handle for the packaging, and the sling knot at the bottle's neck is a nod to the technique used by sailors to keep their wine cool underwater. These elements are symbolic of the agency's willingness to take their projects further and explore new markets.

The design project, which started in September 2018 in Oporto, Portugal, and finished in December, presented several challenges. The major challenge was creating an original and unique packaging that could mark the course set 20 years ago and do justice to the audacity, boldness, and bravery of the Portuguese navigators. The materials and techniques used were chosen to honor typical Portuguese icons.
