Seeme: A Playful Working Table for Cat Owners

Creating a Harmonious Workspace for Humans and Feline Friends

Seeme is a unique and innovative working table designed by Melody Yang, specifically for cat owners who struggle to find a balance between work and their feline companions. Inspired by the designer's own experiences with her roommate and her cat, Seeme aims to provide a solution that combines functionality, aesthetics, and playfulness.

Many cat owners can relate to the challenge of trying to work on a project while their furry friends constantly demand attention on their desk. Recognizing this common problem, Melody Yang embarked on a mission to design a furniture piece that not only solves this issue but also adds a touch of style to any home.

Seeme stands out with its clean and playful environment, offering two separate areas that cater to both humans and cats. The working station provides a dedicated space for individuals to focus on their tasks, while the playground underneath allows cats to have their own fun-filled moments.

One of the key strengths of Seeme is its versatility. The design allows cat owners to concentrate on their work without worrying about their feline companions disrupting their workflow. The playful playground beneath the table keeps cats engaged and entertained, providing them with an outlet for their natural instincts.

When it comes to the production process, Melody Yang opted for the use of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. This choice ensures that Seeme can be easily produced and assembled, making it accessible to a wide range of cat owners. The designer also paid careful attention to material calculations and savings, ensuring a sustainable and efficient manufacturing process.

Seeme comes with specific technical specifications to ensure a seamless user experience. The product dimensions are 30"W x 36"L x 31.75"H, while the package dimensions are 38"W x 32"L x 10"H. Similar to furniture from popular brands like Ikea, the package includes detailed assembly instructions, making it easy for users to set up the table themselves.

The development of Seeme was not without its challenges. One of the main obstacles faced by Melody Yang was finding the right thickness for the design. Initially, the thickness was too large, resulting in a heavy and cumbersome prototype. Overcoming this hurdle required careful adjustments to achieve the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Another challenge was determining the dimensions of the cat playground, as standard table heights needed to be considered while still providing an engaging and playful space for the cats.

Seeme made its debut at the Academy of Art University Winter Show in October 2018, following months of research and development. Melody Yang's research involved studying cat behavior, observing similar products like cat trees, and even visiting cat cafes to gain a deeper understanding of how cats interact with their environment. This thorough research ensured that Seeme was designed with the ergonomics and preferences of cats in mind.

Seeme has received recognition for its exceptional design and functionality. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. Seeme's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology sets it apart as a truly innovative and impactful piece of furniture.

Seeme offers cat owners a harmonious workspace where they can focus on their projects while their cats enjoy their own playful area. With its stylish design and thoughtful features, Seeme is a testament to the power of innovative design in enhancing the lives of both humans and their furry companions.
