Cloud Wine Holder: A Modular and Multi-functional Design

Unleashing Creativity and Functionality in Wine Storage

The Cloud wine holder, designed by Elmira Deldari and Nhi Ton, is a unique and innovative solution for wine storage that combines modularity and multi-functionality. Inspired by the symbolism of wine in ancient mythologies and the beauty of clouds, this design offers consumers limitless options for arranging their wine rack while also serving as appetizer plates.

The main inspiration behind the Cloud wine holder comes from the symbolism of wine as the Drink of Gods in ancient Roman and Greek mythologies. The designers wanted to capture the celestial mobility of clouds, which were believed to be vessels for the Gods to travel between earth and heaven. The curvatures of the wine rack reflect the softness and beauty of clouds, creating a visually stunning piece.

What sets the Cloud wine holder apart is its modular design. Each module can accommodate up to three wine bottles, and consumers have the freedom to choose the overall size of their wine rack and the arrangements in which the modules can be assembled. This modularity concept provides flexibility and allows the wine rack to fit seamlessly into any space, whether small or large.

But the Cloud wine holder doesn't stop at just being a wine rack. Each module is comprised of two attached curvy wood slabs that can be easily dismantled. In the dismantled state, these slabs function as appetizer plates, adding a touch of versatility to the design. This multi-functionality concept enhances the overall user experience and makes the Cloud wine holder a truly unique and practical addition to any home.

The realization of the Cloud wine holder involves cutting, bending, and milling walnut veneer and brass using CNC technology. The designers paid meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that the final product meets their high standards of craftsmanship and quality.

With the Cloud wine holder, consumers have control over the size and shape of their wine rack, allowing for an artistic and creative experience. The design encourages consumers to explore different arrangements based on the geometry and interior design of their space. It's like a puzzle waiting to be solved, offering endless possibilities for customization.

Elmira Deldari and Nhi Ton started working on the Cloud wine holder project in October 2018 and completed it in December 2018 at The University of Art in Philadelphia, USA. Their research focused on addressing contemporary lifestyle needs for better space management and involving consumers in the creation process. The mythological inspiration behind the Cloud adds a philosophical depth to this luxury and beautiful product.

The Cloud wine holder has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category in 2019. This prestigious award honors designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contribute to quality of life improvements, and make the world a better place.

With its modular and multi-functional design, the Cloud wine holder redefines wine storage, combining creativity, functionality, and elegance. It offers consumers the freedom to create their own unique wine rack while also serving as a conversation-starting piece with its mythological inspiration. The Cloud wine holder is a testament to the designers' ingenuity and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of art, design, and technology.
