The Top of Cloud is more than just a restaurant. It is a testament to the city's history and a symbol of its modern luxury. Xi'an, a city with a long history as a capital in Chinese history, is the perfect backdrop for this project. The restaurant sits on the top floor of the city's highest building, offering a panoramic view of Xi'an. This location is not just about the view, but also about representing luxury at its finest.
The design of the restaurant is unique and innovative. The metal curtains hanging from the ceiling mimic the rectangular urban grid of the city, while the Chinese character decorations on the wall add a touch of cultural imagery. The restaurant is divided into different functional areas, each providing a unique ambiance. The bar, in particular, holds the distinction of being the longest one in Asia.
The design process, which began in early 2018 and concluded in October of the same year, presented several challenges. The most significant of these was how to incorporate elements of Xi'an's rich history into the design. The solution was to create an atmosphere reminiscent of Chang'an, the city's historical name, and include significant historical objects in the design.
The Top of Cloud is not just an interior design project; it is a transformation of space. It presents the city's transformation over the dynasties and its cultural heritage, while also providing a contemporary feel for new types of business. This balance between the old and the new is what makes this design stand out.
The project's excellence has not gone unnoticed. It was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and The Top of Cloud certainly fits the bill. With its unique blend of history, luxury, and innovation, it is a design that truly stands above the rest.
