Junqian Chen's "Stand for Peace": A Testament to Love and Harmony

Exploring the Intersection of Fine Jewelry, Mathematical Logic, and Symbolism

Junqian Chen, a renowned designer, has created a unique series of fine jewelry named "Stand for Peace". Inspired by the growth of natural pearls and the universal theme of love and peace, Chen's design uses mathematical logic to explore the beauty of nature. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, realization technology, and accolades of this exquisite design.

The "Stand for Peace" series is a testament to Chen's belief that every material has an inherent mission. The growth of natural pearls greatly inspired her, likening the nurturing of pearls to an adventure of love. The series can be viewed from different angles and interpreted in various ways, reflecting the designer's intention to express the charm of the material in a pure way.

What sets the "Stand for Peace" series apart is its exploration of the original formation of a round pearl, which Chen describes as the trajectory of a two-dimensional circle revolving in space. The design takes the olive branch, a universal symbol of peace, and transforms it into leaves that resemble open shells. Whether viewed as leaves or shells, the jewelry pieces convey the joy of growth in life. The Tahitian and Akoya pearls used in the series are likened to beautiful fruits or great achievements.

The series was designed using 3D software Rhino, 3D printed with wax, and casted with 18K gold. The pearls used are Tahitian and Japanese Akoya pearls. The design includes a bracelet, necklace, earring, and brooch, each with specific dimensions and featuring the pearls prominently.

Chen's design was influenced by artist Olafur Eliasson's exhibitions of circular form in space. She also conducted extensive research on the cultivation of Tahitian pearls, visiting Tahiti and gaining knowledge on the application technology of black pearls with the support of the Tahitian Pearl Association Hong Kong in 2017. One of the challenges in executing the project was finding natural pearls with a gradual change in size and similar color. To maintain the purity of the circular design, a special buckle was designed for the opening of the bracelet.

The "Stand for Peace" series has been recognized for its creativity and innovation, winning the Silver in A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2019. The award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. Chen's design certainly fits this description, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
