Shell: A Stunning Seaside Garden

Agnieszka Hubeny-Zukowska Creates a Private Oasis

The design of this garden was inspired by its location. The plot is located by the Baltic Sea in an elevated area where the wind blows constantly. The motif of the shell, its shape and the synonym shelter (shell-ter) determined the shape of the garden layout.

Agnieszka Hubeny-Zukowska, a renowned designer, has created a truly unique and breathtaking garden called Shell. This residential garden, located by the Baltic Sea, is a testament to the designer's creativity and ingenuity. The inspiration for this project came from the location itself, with the constant wind and the beauty of the sea. The shape of a shell and the concept of shelter were the driving forces behind the garden's layout.

One of the standout features of Shell is the stainless steel wood shelf that has been bent into a wave shape and mounted on a stone wall. This not only adds a touch of elegance to the garden but also provides protection against the strong winds. The combination of the wave-shaped shelf and the stone wall creates a seamless extension of the retaining walls, blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.

The use of Polish stone for the small architecture elements, such as walls and pavement, adds a touch of authenticity to the design. The curved woodshed, made of stainless steel, complements the style of the windows and adds a modern touch to the overall aesthetic. The sunken garden, shaped like a shell, is adorned with hedges, ornamental grasses, and trees, creating a peaceful oasis within the garden.

Despite the windy conditions, Shell offers a tranquil space for relaxation and enjoyment. The elevated terrace provides a stunning view of the sea, allowing residents to admire the beauty of nature. On windless days, one can sit on the terrace and savor a cup of coffee while taking in the breathtaking surroundings. For windier days, the sunken garden, surrounded by layers of hedges and trees, provides a sheltered space to unwind and appreciate the garden's beauty.

The Shell garden project started in June 2010 and was completed in 2014. It has received numerous accolades, including winning first place in the Polish Landscape Contest 2014 in the Private Gardens category. The garden's unique design and thoughtful execution have also been featured in a garden-related television program, further cementing its status as a masterpiece of landscape design.

With its stunning design, innovative features, and breathtaking views, Shell is a true testament to Agnieszka Hubeny-Zukowska's talent and creativity. This seaside garden is a perfect blend of art, architecture, and nature, offering a serene and captivating space for residents to enjoy.
