Dijlah Village: Blending Modernism and Orientalism in the Heart of Baghdad

A Vibrant Mixed-Use Commercial Center

The inspiration for Dijlah Village came from the regional heritage and natural landscape features of its location. The materials, fixtures, and furniture were carefully chosen to create comfortable and memorable spaces with a refined ambiance. The design process incorporated elements of European modernism, contrasting and blending them with Middle Eastern aesthetics. This stylistic synthesis provides a strong answer to the search for built forms that both reflect and push forward Baghdad's ancient cosmopolitanism.

One of the unique properties of Dijlah Village is its diverse range of offerings. In addition to world-class restaurants, visitors can enjoy a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indoor pool, and a top-notch spa. The complex is designed to cater to the needs and desires of the community, providing a space where people can come together, relax, and enjoy various forms of entertainment.

The design of Dijlah Village is a result of a collaborative process between Quark Studio Architects and the client. Extensive research was conducted to understand the client's preferences, hopes for the space, and the unique history and character of the site. The goal was to create a modern-looking complex while still preserving the oriental mood, ensuring that the spaces would be new and exciting without losing the cultural ties between the people and the environment.

The design process also involved overcoming creative and technical challenges. The team had to find a balance between modernism and orientalism, creating a space that would be visually striking and functional while still honoring the cultural context. The result is a complex that seamlessly blends the best of both worlds, offering a unique and captivating experience for visitors.

The Dijlah Village Complex project started in January 2018 and is still ongoing. It is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the design team, led by architects Kemal Çetin and Alperen Aydemir, and creative directors Marco Altea and Mehmet Can Altun. Their vision and attention to detail have created a space that not only meets the needs of the community but also adds to the cultural fabric of Baghdad.

Dijlah Village has been recognized for its excellence in design, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The complex has proven to be a successful integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its visitors and contributing to a better world.
