Synergetic Purity: A Harmonious Blend of Elegance and Spatiality

Marcus Hsu's Award-Winning Residence Design Balances Minimalism and Rich Visual Experience

The design of "Synergetic Purity" was born out of the differing design preferences of the male and female clients. The male client favored an interior that showcased enriched spatiality, while the female client preferred minimalist elegance. To accommodate these preferences, Hsu used a simple line work and color scheme, complemented by multiple materials, to create an enriched visual experience reminiscent of a calm yet lively lake surface.

Despite the limited interior area, Hsu managed to construct optimal visual aesthetics and living circulation by leveraging the site advantages. Each domain was articulated with various materials and patterns to manifest an enriched spatiality of elegance. The design was realized using ultra-scratch-resistant timber flooring, gloss tiles, granite, grey glass, timber veneer, system cabinets, wallpaper, and curtains.

The residence, located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, was completed in December 2018. It includes a living room, dining area, kitchen, reading and study area, two bedrooms, a multi-functional guestroom, and a bathroom, all within an area of approximately 82 square meters. The open-plan layout of the public domain areas, which include the living room, dining area, and study room, was designed to take advantage of the ample natural lighting and natural mountain vista available at the high floor level.

One of the major challenges Hsu faced during the design process was coordinating the different wants and needs of the male and female clients within the limited space. This challenge was addressed by using an evenly considered material and color scheme combination to create an elegant and enriched aesthetic. The result is a design that is both practical and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements while also providing fulfillment and positive feelings.

In conclusion, Marcus Hsu's "Synergetic Purity" is a shining example of how differing design preferences can be harmoniously blended to create a unique and visually appealing space. This design, which was awarded the Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, is a testament to Hsu's ability to balance minimalism and enriched spatiality to create a residence that is both elegant and functional.
