My Coin: A Unique Perspective on Value in 3D Animation

The inspiration behind "My Coin" comes from the varying standards of value that different individuals hold. In the animation, a boy drops a coin into a sewer, and a wealthy man, upon understanding the situation, offers the boy a gold bullion instead of a coin. This scenario effectively illustrates how value can be subjective and differs from person to person.

"My Coin" stands out due to its unique approach to storytelling and its effective use of 3D animation. The characters' exaggerated behaviors and the dramatic narrative are brought to life using the Maya program, a digital 3D computer animation tool. This technique allows the animation to deliver its message in a compelling and visually engaging manner.

The project, which started and concluded in March 2017 at Bournemouth University, was a collaborative effort. The design team, including Sungkyun Bae, Huy Bui, Michelle Trapani, Reka Kadar, Tony Lewin, and Xue Han, worked together to bring this innovative animation to life. Their combined efforts resulted in a piece that effectively communicates the difference in values that each person holds.

Creating "My Coin" was not without its challenges. One of the main obstacles the team faced was producing a 3D animation that could effectively deliver its content within a short time frame. However, through research and creative problem-solving, they were able to overcome this hurdle and create an award-winning piece.
