Lidu Sorghum Baijiu: A Contemporary Minimalist Packaging Design

Redesigning Traditional Chinese Liquor Packaging for the Modern Consumer

Inspired by the rich history and craftsmanship of Lidu Sorghum Baijiu, designers Wen Liu and Bo Zheng have created a contemporary minimalist packaging design that appeals to the young Chinese consumer. This innovative approach breaks away from the traditional packaging styles commonly seen in the Chinese market, offering a visually striking and environmentally conscious alternative.

The design of Lidu Sorghum Baijiu draws inspiration from daily life discoveries and the desire to create an ecologically harmonious image. The surface of the crystal glass bottle is adorned with textures that enhance its quality, while the label and neck label are made of old special paper, adding a touch of nostalgia. The black and gold pattern text on the bottle exudes elegance and sophistication.

What sets Lidu Sorghum Baijiu apart is its contemporary minimalist fashion visual language. By simplifying the materials and technologies used in the packaging, the design emphasizes the quality of the product itself rather than relying on extravagant packaging. This approach aligns with the growing trend of recycling and environmental protection, appealing to the aesthetics and values of young consumers.

The packaging size of Lidu Sorghum Baijiu measures 70mm in length, 70mm in width, and 260mm in height. The box, made of black special paper with gold and black gold text and patterns, adds a touch of luxury to the overall presentation.

Wen Liu, Bo Zheng, and Weijie Kang collaborated on this project, dedicating their expertise to create a packaging design that challenges the traditional norms of Chinese liquor packaging. Through extensive research and analysis of the Baijiu market, the team identified the need for a more accessible visual language that resonates with consumers. The contemporary minimalist style of Lidu Sorghum Baijiu achieves just that, capturing the attention of young consumers who appreciate modern design aesthetics.

Recognizing the importance of changing consumer perceptions of product packaging, the design aims to shift the focus back to the quality of the product itself. By adopting a minimalist approach, Lidu Sorghum Baijiu encourages consumers to appreciate the craftsmanship and heritage behind the brand, while also promoting sustainability and resource conservation.

The Lidu Sorghum Baijiu packaging design project commenced in October 2018 in Shenzhen, China, and was completed in November 2018. It represents a significant breakthrough in the traditional Chinese liquor packaging industry, challenging the status quo and paving the way for more innovative and consumer-friendly designs.

This exceptional design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2020. The Iron A' Design Award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Lidu Sorghum Baijiu's contemporary minimalist packaging design exemplifies these qualities, contributing to a better world through its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
