Hermit Huts: A Tranquil Retreat in the Mountains

A Short-Term Rental Resort Hotel Inspired by Traditional Thatched Huts

The Hermit Huts project, designed by Cheng Zhang, draws inspiration from the charming thatched huts found in the mountains of western China. This unique resort hotel aims to create a serene environment that allows guests to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature.

The Hermit Huts resort hotel is nestled in the mountains, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The main objective of the design is to provide visitors with an opportunity to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the mountains and enjoy a peaceful and rejuvenating experience.

The project stands out with its distinctive exterior, which replicates the traditional thatched hut structures of ancient times. This architectural choice not only adds a touch of nostalgia but also transports guests to a different era, far removed from the modern cityscape.

Inside the huts, every piece of furniture and accessory is crafted from old wood using traditional techniques. This attention to detail creates an authentic and rustic living environment, allowing guests to immerse themselves in a bygone era. The use of old wood not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also contributes to a more sustainable approach to design.

Furthermore, the Hermit Huts project draws inspiration from the hermit culture deeply rooted in Chinese tradition. By creating a secluded atmosphere in the mountains, the designers aim to evoke a sense of inner peace and tranquility for the guests. This psychological experience of living in seclusion allows visitors to disconnect from the outside world and find solace in the serenity of nature.

The resort hotel comprises ten rooms with a total area of 470 square meters. Each room is thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly with the natural slope of the mountain, creating a harmonious integration between the building and its surroundings. Upon entering, guests are greeted with spacious living spaces and private gardens, providing a sense of openness and tranquility.

The Hermit Huts project was launched in May 2018 in Chongqing and completed in October of the same year. Since its opening, it has been a haven for those seeking a peaceful retreat in the mountains. The design has successfully addressed challenges such as dampness and lack of lighting, commonly associated with buildings in close proximity to mountains.

This exceptional project has been recognized for its ingenuity and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. The Hermit Huts design showcases the fusion of art, science, and technology, contributing to an improved quality of life for its guests.

Experience the tranquility and beauty of the Hermit Huts resort hotel, where nature and design come together to create an unforgettable retreat.
