Collector's Stage

Residential Apartment by Lai Ki Nikki Ho

Inspired by the client's antique collection, the Collector's Stage is a residential apartment that combines Scandinavian furniture making with the principles of Bauhaus. The design focuses on functionality, modernity, and mass production, resulting in a space that is both functional and minimal.

The walls of the apartment are designed to be multi-functional, serving as acoustic panels, TV walls, storage spaces, conceal doors, display shelves, and serving tables. All of these elements are hidden and unified with the wall covering panels, creating a seamless and cohesive spatial quality. This design approach allows for a clutter-free and organized living space.

What sets the Collector's Stage apart is its integration with the surrounding natural environment. Situated at the peak of Hong Kong, the apartment offers breathtaking views of the harbor and adjoins a mountain. The design brings nature into everyday life, using natural materials and sculptured light to create a tranquil atmosphere that blends harmoniously with the surroundings.

The apartment also showcases antique furniture from Northern Europe and modern paintings from the owner's collection, adding a unique touch to the space. The combination of these elements creates a harmonious blend of old and new, traditional and contemporary.

In terms of realization technology, the design aligns with the Scandinavian furniture making philosophy of modernity and functionalism. Daily functions are concealed with wall covered panels and huge sliding panels, creating a monolithic and seamless space. The interior space is kept simple with clean lines and light-colored teak and oak wood, allowing the owner's important pieces to take center stage.

The Collector's Stage is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional. The apartment features a wine cellar and a multi-functional entertainment room, catering to the owner's interests and lifestyle. Additionally, high technology is seamlessly integrated into the space, with an extensive smart living system, AV, and karaoke system.

The project was completed in October 2018 and is located in Mount Nicholson, the Peak, Hong Kong. The design has been recognized for its excellence and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

Overall, the Collector's Stage is a testament to the power of good design. It seamlessly blends functionality, modernity, and nature, creating a space that not only showcases the owner's collections but also provides a tranquil and harmonious living environment.
