At the heart of "Mountain Stone" lies the concept of environmental protection. Long's design is a creative exploration of the relationships between people, nature, and the environment. The design's unique properties lie in its cover design, where the book binding is made of hand-made bare spinal glue, and the cover font design adopts the morphological characteristics of "Taihu stone", enhancing the book's aesthetic and artistic appeal.
Long's design is not just visually striking; it also carries a profound message. The design of the entire book binding takes "Taihu Stone" as the creative point, using the natural beauty of the mountain stone to describe humanity's longing for nature. It directly reflects the mood and pursuit of the rock in the author's heart, symbolizing the deep connection between humans and the natural world.
The "Mountain Stone" design was realized using green paper, reinforcing its environmental message. The book's dimensions are 210mmx14mmx190mm, making it a compact yet impactful piece of art. The design's tags include Environmental Protection, Arts, Exhibition, Visual, and Books, reflecting its multifaceted nature.
The design was a collaborative effort between Weiquan Long and Xueqiong Guo. It was created as part of a series of "Environmental Protection + Art" exhibitions, co-sponsored by New Southern Art, Guangdong Environmental Protection, Guangdong Fashion Brand Operations Group, and Young Miao Project Task Force. The exhibition was held at the E5 Art Museum in Guangzhou, China, and was widely covered by media outlets across Guangdong.
"Mountain Stone" was conceived in January 2017 in Guangzhou, China. The design was inspired by the work of Sun Xiaofeng, an artist and independent curator. From the perspective of "The Stone in His Heart", the reflection of the mountain rocks in the water is like a self-mirror, reflecting the relationship between man and nature. This original intention is reflected in the design of the work, which aims to raise environmental awareness and understand the importance of environmental protection.
The design faced challenges in communicating environmental issues through art and arousing people's attention to environmental protection. Despite these challenges, "Mountain Stone" was successful in conveying its message, earning it the Silver A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
