The designer behind M-Cube envisions the mall as a mystery box, where countless possibilities, creativity, and innovation take place. The use of multifaceted forms, multicolored shapes, and reflective materials creates a visually stunning environment that unleashes the senses and transports visitors into a world of imagination. The mall is designed to appeal to young customers, inviting them to embark on an adventure in a continuum of real and virtual spaces, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. With M-Cube, the possibilities are endless, as everyone perceives space differently.
As visitors enter the mall, they are greeted by a theatrical cubic LED screen on top of the central atrium. This IG-able LED cube serves as a modern interpretation of the Rubik's Cube, offering glimpses of the events and activities happening within the mall. It sets the stage for an immersive experience that awaits visitors.
The outdoor express escalator is another feature inspired by the Rubik's Twist. The escalator's feature wall consists of multifaceted mirrors and aluminum panels that reflect images from the surroundings and the building facade. Magical TV screens embedded in the wall sense the motion of passengers, creating a fun and interactive way to ride the escalator. The ever-changing scenes and twisting illusions reflect the movement and lighting conditions, providing a unique experience with each visit.
The lift lobby on each floor is assigned a different color, creating a prism-like effect. Specially designed mirror rooms with cubic anamorphic projections divide the space into zones using mirrors, colored glass, aluminum panels, and continuous light strips. Depending on the viewer's angle, a square or cube is revealed, creating a boundless environment where senses are enhanced and emotions are refined. Each visit to the lift lobby becomes a unique and captivating experience.
Spanning over 26,000 square meters, M-Cube is a testament to the transformation of an old wet market into a modern shopping destination. Completed in 2018 in Beijing, China, this design project faced the challenge of adapting to the digital era, where online retail poses a severe threat to traditional malls. M-Cube goes beyond mere shopping, offering a package of customer experiences and creating an environment that is truly IG-able, catering to the needs and desires of the modern consumer.
Recognized for its innovative and practical design, M-Cube was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. M-Cube stands as a testament to the power of design in creating fulfilling and positive experiences, contributing to a better world.
