Yinshi Shanfang: Redefining the Chinese Health Restaurant

A Unique Blend of Nature and Modern Architecture

In today's fast-paced life, finding a way to relieve fatigue and relax is a strong desire for many. Yinshi Shanfang, designed by Kingdom Kuo, redefines the concept of a Chinese health restaurant, presenting a unique and innovative space that combines nature and modern architecture. This article explores the strengths and features of this design, as well as the inspiration and realization behind it.

In this case, Kingdom Kuo breaks away from traditional Chinese design and embraces the original textures of wood and stone materials. By incorporating appropriate soft accessories, the design creates an artistic and unconventional atmosphere. The integration of waterscapes and natural landscapes adds a touch of beauty and harmony, making Yinshi Shanfang an innovative exploration of space and nature.

The use of large-area wood veneer gives the restaurant an ecological and natural ambiance. The irregular hollows on both sides of the gate resemble a sunshine forest, creating a dreamlike play of light and shadow during the night. The storefront sign entices guests to step inside and experience the unique atmosphere of the restaurant.

With a total area of 600 square meters, Yinshi Shanfang's interior design aims to create a pure and tranquil ecological atmosphere. The Zen-like mood is achieved through a deep understanding of the interaction between space and architecture. The minimalist approach eliminates the need for excessive decoration, allowing guests to feel a sense of unity and tranquility as soon as they enter the restaurant.

The design team, consisting of Kingdom Kuo, Xiufang Zhao, Zengxin Zhao, Xiang Ren, and Weijing Zhang, has carefully crafted the space to ensure a seamless and harmonious experience. The service desk, set against a rockery background, sets a tone of simplicity and tranquility. The accessories under the light, shaped like wild bacteria, complement the restaurant's theme and add an elegant and noble touch with their gold hollow details.

Yinshi Shanfang is located in Shanxi and the project started in July 2018, concluding in December 2018. The design is inspired by the concept of "Shanfang," which translates to "mountain residence" in English. The overall space design revolves around the theme of wild interest in the mountains. The weaving texture on the top of the table for six people creates a visual representation of clouds in the mountains, adding a refreshing element to the design.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was creating a waiting area that would keep guests calm and relaxed. To address this, a waterscape was added next to the service desk, facing the leisure teahouse in the waiting area. The undulating modeling top of the waterscape area, along with the decoration of false pines, creates a fresh and refined atmosphere, evoking a sense of tranquility.

The partition design in Yinshi Shanfang is another noteworthy feature. The circular hollow design provides semi-privacy, allowing customers to enjoy their meals without feeling confined. The semi-open layout ensures a sense of openness and connectivity between different spaces, while the partition between the inner circle and the outer part reflects ancient Chinese aesthetics, creating a Zen-like charm.

Yinshi Shanfang, with its unique blend of nature and modern architecture, offers a refreshing and tranquil dining experience. The design by Kingdom Kuo and the team has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges the creativity and resourcefulness of the design, which contributes to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place.
