The design concept for Halle A was inspired by the dynamic interaction between architectural atmosphere, the modern digitally focused world of work and the contemporary search for intimacy and material substance. CEO and Creative Director Sasa Stanojčić and Christina Koepf, Head of Interior Architecture and Design, aimed to create a space that invites exploration and engagement from anyone who enters it.
Halle A was previously a metal-working shop for the Munich utilities company Stadtwerke München. The conversion preserved the character of the hall, building on its industrial atmosphere and extending its external features throughout the interior. The colour palette is based on the materials and textures prevalent in the complex, which primarily houses skilled trades.
The structure of the hall interior is determined by two ridge-roof buildings containing two floors of individual offices. These, along with the old foreman's office, form an ensemble that produces the effect of a roofed village square in the intervening space. Despite the size of this space, it is divided into distinct zones and functional areas, creating a feeling of intimacy.
The kitchen is designed as a private room for staff, while the library is where visitors are received and spontaneous meetings are held. The cabinets lining the walls each end in a counter-top that designates the start of the work area. These cabinets combine a variety of functions; they are used for storage and filing, as well as serving as standing workplaces and reception counters.
The hall has a rectangular footprint 650 square meters and ceilings 10,4 metres in height at their highest point. The east and west sides are built of glass bricks and incorporate a row of windows at eye level. Flooring combines areas of cross-grained larchwood parquet with concrete, adding visual structure to the hall.
This innovative design has earned Designliga the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2014.
